As the leaves begin to paint the world in vibrant shades of red, orange, and gold, it’s the perfect time to embrace the cozy spirit of fall. What better way to welcome the season than with a gorgeous fall wreath that captures the essence of autumn?
At Burst Into Bloom, we’re excited to guide you on a creative journey to craft your very own fall wreath. Whether you’re an experienced floral enthusiast or just beginning your floral design adventures, this project is bound to fill your home with the warmth and beauty of fall.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- A grapevine wreath base (available at your local craft store).
- Dried copper beech and magnolia leaves for an authentic touch.
- Artificial mums in rich fall hues for lasting beauty.
- Artificial Fall leaves with pumpkins and berries for that quintessential autumn charm.
- 1 pair of Felcos pruners for dried florals.
- 1 pair of wire cutters for artificial fall leaves.
- Paddle wire, the secret ingredient for easily securing your elements to the wreath base.
Special Note: I always use repurposed artificial flowers and leaves. These ones came from a local estate sale, adding a sustainable and personal touch to your creation.
Here’s how to craft your own stunning fall wreath:
Gather Your Supplies: Lay out all your materials for easy access. Take a moment to appreciate the textures and colors that represent fall’s beauty.
Trim and Shape: Use your Felcos pruners to cut all the dried flowers and your wire cutters for the artificial fall leaves to your desired lengths. Don’t be afraid to mix and match sizes for a natural look.
Arrange Your Florals: Start adding the flowers or leaves to the wreath base, tucking them into the grapevine. Think of this as your rough draft. Aim to properly space the different types of materials throughout the whole design. Work your way around from the starting point of the wreath until you are happy with the design. I chose to leave the grapevine base visible for 1/3rd of the design to add an extra layer of visual interest.
Secure with Paddle Wire: Once you’re satisfied with the placement, go back and wrap the paddle wire around the wreath to secure the florals in place. Ensure that none of the paddle wire is visible. This may require removing your arranged florals at lower levels while you secure the above florals, then layer by layer, add the florals and leaves back and secure them with the paddle wire.
Finishing Touches: Double-check that everything is securely fastened. Trim any excess wire, and ensure all elements are snug against the grapevine base.
Hang and Admire: Find the perfect spot to display your fall wreath. Whether on your front door, above the fireplace, or as a tabletop centerpiece, let your creation shine.
The Result: A Handcrafted Piece of Fall Magic!
