As fellow lovers of floral arranging, gardening, and all things creative, we are delighted to celebrate National Book Lovers Day with you on August 9th! This special day is a perfect opportunity to combine our passion for flowers with the joy of getting lost in a good book. Why not create charming centerpieces by seamlessly blending the elegance of flowers with the charm of books? These unique arrangements will infuse your reading nook with a sense of enchantment, transforming it into a haven where both nature’s beauty and literary treasures flourish side by side.
We have some delightful ways for you to celebrate this day and bring a touch of botanical beauty to your reading adventures.
Here are three wonderful ways to celebrate National Book Lovers Day:
1 – Press Flowers to Make a Bookmark:
Embrace the beauty of nature and preserve it within the pages of your favorite books! Take a few minutes to pick fresh flowers or leaves from your garden or a nearby park. Then, carefully place them in a thick, heavy book, between wax paper to protect your literary works, and ensure the flowers are spaced apart to flatten nicely. Let them rest for at least two days to achieve a beautifully pressed appearance. Once your flowers are ready, create your own stunning bookmarks by arranging the pressed flowers artfully on top of the sticky side of the clear contact paper. Then take another piece of clear contact paper, remove the backing and place it sticky side down on top of the flowers to seal the pressed flowers between the paper. Once you’ve done this take your scissors and trim the sides to the size of a bookmark. This simple DIY project will not only enhance your reading experience but also serve as a cherished keepsake of the natural world.
Materials you’ll need:
- Fresh flowers or leaves
- Heavy books
- Heavy weight (optional)
- Clear contact paper
- Wax paper
2- Visit Local Botanical Gardens, Flower Farms, or Have a Nature Picnic:
Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of blooms by visiting your local botanical gardens, flower farms, or having a relaxing nature picnic. Find a serene spot where you can sit back, unwind, and enjoy a good book while surrounded by the beauty of nature’s floral wonders. The vibrant colors, delicate fragrances, and the soothing ambiance will create the perfect backdrop for your reading adventure. Let the pages of your book transport you to different worlds while you bask in the serenity of the outdoors.
Pay a Visit to Your Local Library:
Support your community’s love for literature and the arts by visiting your local library. Take a leisurely stroll through the aisles, perusing a diverse selection of books, including those on gardening, floral arranging, and creative pursuits. Immerse yourself in the world of words and enjoy the tranquil ambiance that libraries offer.
As a bonus, we wanted to share Lauren’s favorite floral book recommendations with you. These reads explore the subjects of nature and mindfulness, leading readers down new and thought-provoking avenues, which makes them perfect companions for any book lover with a green thumb:
